Today in class, we discussed the various questions we need to ask ourselves when making the documentary (I have added to the last blog post about it) and talked about how we can answer some of them when making the film. We also spent some time working out our three main points for our documentary and placing in the most effective points to our argument under each sub-heading as a group so that we have an idea of what to do when we write our own rationale
1. Body Image and Mental Health - Eliza
- Statistics on increase in levels of eating disorders/depression
- People posting photos of their bodies online - negative effect on those who don't have the same body shape and are constantly bombarded with these images
- Interviews with influencers and credible figures to highlight the effects of this
- Pressure to be perfect
- People portraying the image they want others to see rather than the truth
- Depression anxiety, certain posts/accounts encourage it
2. Connection With Others and Reliance on Social Media - Ashleigh
- Positive: allows businesses to connect with people and promote themselves
- Positive: connecting with friends and family: maintained and stronger relationships
- Connecting to strangers: catfishing
- Inability to connect with others in real life
- False sense of connection: hard to decipher between real and fake relationships
- Rely on phones for conversation rather than face to face
- Statistics: how often people check/use their phone
3. Privacy and Security: Me
- People are more public with their lives and post everything, which can negatively impact their lives as it can lead to identity theft, they can become a target to cyber criminals, stalkers, etc.
- Employers can see everything that has been posted, which can impact people's employment opportunities and effect their career
- Statistics on how many people have posted something they regret
- Statistics on how many people have posted private information about their life
- Facebook quizzes and loopholes in social media Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policies share private information with third parties. People accept these without bothering to read
- Include these policies
- Snapchat: screenshots taken of photos not permitted to be saved by whoever took the photo. This can lead to a negative impact on their reputation, etc.
- Interview with Shani Grimmond about how social media and lack of privacy led to the break in to her house and robber, if she has had any experience with stalkers as a result of social media
- Why do people trust their information with social media sites?
