Playing Around with Different Lighting

Today during class, I learnt how to use the Gimbal since I am taking it home to film over the weekend. I am so excited to use it and see how the shots turn out - it's going to make my tracking shots look so much better. On Sunday, I will be filming a lot! I will be filming as much as I can of the scenes of the daughter on her adventure and her father looking for her and I will be beginning with the shots using the Gimbal so that if I run out of time, I don't need to borrow out the Gimbal on another weekend and can let other people have the opportunity to use it too. 

In the afternoon, I wanted to test out some shots using the different colour slides on the LED light, even though I don't think I will be using these different colours throughout my film (except for a few shots). I will be adding in the colour afterwards when I am editing. Here are some of the shots:

I really love the look of these images with the different lighting and wish I could have used this light in my previous, darker films.

Screenshots of Chapter Pages

Today during class, I finished creating the screenshots that I will be using in my film at the beginning of each chapter. I am so happy with these and I think they really suit Wes Anderson's aesthetic, although I may re-do the ending page and make the text bigger or something as I don't know if I like the fact that the page doesn't really have much on it.

Production Schedule

During today's lesson, I created my production schedule and will be printing it out so I can refer back to it and see where I am up to in my production, what I should be doing and how many lessons I have left before it is due.

Feedback on Draft

Yesterday, I handed in my draft of my treatment and I received some feedback on it during today's lesson. 

• Boy gives the girl a different outlook, e.g. on why the dad might be feeling and acting the way has been
• Or the girl realises how much the boy means to her and then she loses him and realises why the dad has been feeling and acting that way
• Both the daughter and the father have to realise, not just the father
• Have to link in the boy to the reunification 
• Make the bit where the boy is in the story bigger and the journey smaller
• Condense the journey (where she is placing all the clues in the different locations) by making it a montage
• Shot list: make the shot notes more specific and write what the shot is of, rather than just camera notes

During today's lesson and this afternoon, I will be editing my storyline so that the section where the boy is in will have a purpose and will be connected to the ending of the story. I will also reduce the journey and make the part with the boy a bigger aspect of the story. After I finish that, I will be able to complete my synopsis in the next lesson and finish off my shot list.

Images Used For Inspiration

I have been looking through my folder of stills from various Wes Anderson films and have collated some of my favourite in a collage. The images below really represent the aesthetic I am going for with my upcoming film and the style I want to portray. I will be using these for inspiration for my shot types. 

• The shot of the book is inspiration for the first shots of my film which will be of the autobiography sitting on the desk
• The letters are what I will base the look of the screenshots of Mary's letter on; I will be scanning the letter and placing it in front of a textured image
• The shot of the woman sitting on the bed is similar to the shot I will be taking of the father in the beginning of the film
• The character of Suzy Bishop has really inspired my with my main character of Mary and the shot of her looking through the binoculars is similar to that of what I will be doing
• There is also a shot of a little yellow box which is the same style as the suitcase I will be using and the map from Moonrise Kingdom has inspired me with the map I will be creating in my film

Wednesday 19 July

During today's lesson, I began writing my treatment. I complied my list of resources, including props, settings and character profiles, then wrote my introduction. I began to write my synopsis, but I found it kind of difficult to start so I decided it would be easier if I wrote my shot list beforehand. I am quite happy with the idea that I have, although it still needs a bit of refining before the due date, and I am happy with how I am going in terms of time management. This term, I have spent my class time concentrating really hard on my design and getting it sorted out instead of leaving it more last minute, and I am a lot more organised with writing it. I am going to continue working on my shot list this afternoon for homework and will try to get the majority of it done so that I can write my treatment during Friday's lesson.
